I offer Swedish/Holistic Massage, Deep Tissue Massage and Hot Stones.

Swedish/Holistic Massage

The Swedish/Holistic massage is the most popular massage there is. It’s a classic that will give you all the relaxation you need. Five types of strokes make up the massage, the pressure can be as light or as firm as you like and it is perfect for soothing your muscles and easing tension in your whole body, making you feel as light as a feather!

My massage involves the Swedish elements and also a Holistic element which comes in part from the oils and/or pre-blended aromatherapy massage waxes used suit your requirements.  It is a massage designed to treat the whole person – mind and body. Tailored to suit your needs to restore, rebalance and relax.

It does this by affecting each of the body’s systems:

  • Stimulating the lymphatic & circulatory systems
  • Increasing cellular activity
  • Stimulating the parasympathetic system (opposite of “fight or flight” effect) to help reduce blood pressure, aid digestion and calm the nerves

Treatment can also include deeper tissue work to target specific areas.

If you’re suffering from tensions and aches that cannot be solved by a classic Swedish massage, then a deep tissue massage might be the answer you’re looking for. During a deep tissue massage, the pressure is stronger and concentrated on the problematic area which might lead to a little bit of discomfort. It is worth it though as it helps alleviate the pain in the long term!

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue is a type of massage therapy that is used to treat chronic tension and injuries from overuse. It is a very effective way of relieving muscular tension and restricted movement. Whilst some of the strokes are the same as in classic (Swedish) massage, the pace tends to be slower and pressure is applied more strongly, concentrated on problem areas. Practitioners may use their forearms, elbows, fingertips and knuckles as well as their hands in order to break-up adhesions. These bands of rigid tissue can cause pain and inflammation, and restrict movement and circulation in muscle tissue. You might have a stiff neck and upper back, lower back pain, tight legs or sore shoulders. Deep tissue massage works to realign the different layers of tissue, treating the tendons, ligaments and fascia (the protective layer of tissues which surrounds the bones, joints and muscles) as well as the muscles to release tension and provide pain relief.

“Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension”

Mayo Clinic

Hot Stones Therapy

The therapy originates from Native American traditions and was re-introduced to therapists via Mary Nelson in 1993 and has gone on to become a popular treatment around the world.

Application of hot stones provides deep relaxation, balance and healing for the client.  The whole treatment is deeply relaxing, using gorgeous oils and totally natural stones.

During a hot stone massage, the smooth, flat, heated stones are placed on specific parts of your body. The stones are made of basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat. The stones may be placed:

  • Along your spine
  • On your stomach
  • On your chest
  • On your face
  • On your palms
  • On your feet and toes

I will also use the hot stones to massage with, using Swedish massage techniques such as:

  • Long strokes
  • Circular movements
  • Vibration
  • Tapping
  • Kneading

Sometimes cold stones are also used during a hot stone massage. Cold stones may be used after hot stones to calm any engorged blood vessels and to soothe the skin.

Hot Stone Therapy may help to:

  • Relieve muscle tension and pain
  • Reduce stress and tension
  • Promote sleep
  • Promote a deep feeling of relaxation
  • Cleanse, rebalance and detoxify
  • Boost immune system

“Hot stones massage is extraordinary: combining a deep pressure of flat stones with the extra advantage of deep heat as well. It really is like a massage on steroids!”

These can be stand alone session to work on specific problematic area that you have highlighted and we have discussed, the session lasts up to an hour.  It is often advisable to have series of sessions over a period of time to help alleviate the issue.

Once we have discussed what you are looking for from that session then I will tailor the treatment to you.

Please allow extra time at the initial session due to consultation process and client history that needs to be obtained before the massage can begin.

What to Expect

When you arrive, I’ll ask you to fill out a health and lifestyle consultation form and we’ll discuss and plan the treatment session based on your requirements and our conversation.

Please wear loose fitting clothes and for some treatments you will need to be down to shorts/underwear – don’t worry, you’ll be covered with fluffy towels. The therapy room is kept at a warm temperature – and there’s even a heated pad which is gorgeous!

At the end of your treatment I’ll leave you to have some quiet time to allow you to ‘re-emerge’ from your massage haze before getting up and getting dressed.
