Helen Grimwade Massage Therapy
This policy outlines some of the key measures I have taken to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus (COVID-19). Please note the content may be subject to change.
Adhering to guidelines
Throughout the pandemic, I will be following guidelines issued by the government, NHS, other relevant authorities and my professional association, the Federation of Holistic Therapists, regarding safe and hygienic practice and the use of any personal protective equipment (PPE).
COVID-19 Risk Assessment
I have carried out a full risk assessment, in line with guidance from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), in order to:
- identify what work activity or situations might cause transmission of the virus;
- think about who could be at risk;
- decide how likely it is that someone could be exposed; and to
- act to remove the activity or situation, or if this isn’t possible, control the risk.
Prior to seeing any of my clients, I will be:
- monitoring my own health and deferring treatments if I have COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19.
- contacting my clients 24 hours in advance and deferring any treatments if: they have COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19; are clinically extremely vulnerable and shielding; anyone in their household has COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19; they have been in close contact with someone who has symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days; they have been contacted by the NHS Test and Trace Service and told to self isolate.
- asking my clients to call and cancel and defer treatment on the morning of their appointment if they have a temperature or other symptoms of COVID-19.
Enhanced cleaning and hygiene measures
I have introduced enhanced cleaning and hygiene measures between clients, which includes washing and disinfecting any non-porous surfaces and therapy equipment, such as chairs and couches, and replacing any non-porous or single-use items, such as towels and couch roll. Strict personal hygiene measures will also be adhered to, including regular handwashing/ sanitising.
Adapting or restricting treatments
It may be necessary for me to adapt or restrict certain treatments, in order to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 and/or protect my clients’ health and safety. Any clients likely to be impacted will be advised as soon as possible.
Maintaining social distancing
Please note that while many treatments involve close contact, I will be observing social distancing measures wherever possible. This might include, for example, maintaining an appropriate distance during the consultation process, and when arriving and leaving for an appointment.
If a treatment is cancelled or deferred at short notice because my client has COVID-19 or has symptoms of COVID-19, any standard cancellation fees will be waivered. The client will be asked to kindly confirm in writing that their appointment has been cancelled or deferred because they have COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19.

Date: 23rd June 2020
I am really happy to be relocating and able to reopen Helen Grimwade Massage Therapy now situated at Pebbles. Health & Beauty in conjunction with Amanda Merchant.
To start with I will be working all day on Wednesdays from 5th August 2020.
Following government guidelines, Amanda will begin a phased re-opening of the studio, and we shall be implementing some new protocols on how the business is managed in between clients and using appropriate PPE for each and every individual treatment.
These protocols may change over the coming weeks as we receive more government information, as we are constantly receiving guidance directly from our industry bodies also.
Please see below Pebbles Health & Beauty Covid-19 Protocol which I will be abiding by as Helen Grimwade Massage Therapy:
-Extra time between clients to disinfect all surfaces throughout the studio
-We shall be wearing disposable aprons and gloves where possible, and a mask throughout all facial/massage treatments
-Clients will be asked to wash their hands on entry and dry them using paper towels provided and/or use our hands-free electric hand sanitiser, which will be available for your use before and after treatments
-All treatments will now be using disposable (yet fully biodegradable & compostable) spa sheets and mitts instead of towels to avoid any possible contamination
-Clients are asked to leave any personal possessions including phones in their cars. There will be a sanitised area in the studio for keys and wallets, which will be disinfected between treatments
-Water will be provided for in disposable cups or you are welcome to bring your own bottle
-Clients may bring in their own PPE to wear, however wearing masks during most treatments would be impossible, such as facials and massage
-If any clients have had any symptoms of Covid-19 or a fever during the past two weeks then they are asked to please not attend their appointment and will not be charged for any cancellation, however short the notice
-Therapists temperatures will be taken on a daily basis as will every client who enters the venue, using an infrared thermometer
-Windows will be left open between treatments and if possible during treatments to allow for optimal air flow throughout venue
-Vulnerable clients or anyone who lives with someone who is at high risk are discouraged from attending any treatments
-Door is locked to the building whilst treatments are being carried out (as always) to minimise footfall throughout the venue
-The consultation area will unfortunately not be in use due to the fabric chairs not being sterile. Consultations instead will take place at the nail desk or in the clinical treatment room
-Contactless payments or BACS only
-Helen Grimwade Massage Therapy will make phone contact with you to discuss your treatment, health and massage wanted. I will then email the medical/consultation form to you prior to your first appointment, PLEASE BRING THE COMPLETED FORM TO YOUR APPOINTMENT, it will also have a COVID-19 symptoms disclaimer. This is to prevent any possible side effects or reactions to clients who may or may not present potential coagulopathy issues, where massage treatments could prove a health risk. It is there for your safety, which is of paramount importance to us.
Your safety is paramount, and we will ensure that all necessary precautions will be taken before, during & after your time at Pebbles Health & Beauty.
Looking forward to seeing you, stay safe.
